  • Description: This is a large shrub or small tree with stiff, spreading branches that develop a somewhat oval or rounded crown.  The bark is cherry-like with reddish brown to brownish bark, and the leaf color is dark green in summer.  It is usually one of the earliest trees to leaf out in the spring.  This tree blooms from early to mid June (around 2 weeks), and the flowers are a perfect, creamy white color, and are fragrant.  This is an especially showy tree, and makes an excellent specimen tree.
